Assignment:

  • I want you to find 5 web sites for each type of business listed and write a brief review for each of the 5 sites.
    (a brief review is approximately 3-5 sentences)
  • Pick to of the 5 sites you reviewed to evaluate in depth.
    (this evaluation should be at least one detailed paragraph - about 10-15 sentences based upon the Evaluation Criteria)
  • Use the criteria listed below for each of your evaluations.
  • All of your evaluations should be included in the same document.
  • You will have 10 separate evaluations in evaluation report and place it in the dropbox.

Types of websites:

For each of the clients below, search on Google.com for 5 sites, write a brief review of each based on the evaluation criteria and then select 2 of these 5 to evaluation in greater detail.

  1. A client has a retail furniture store and wants you to develop a web site for them. Search for 5 retail furniture store sites, review them, then select 2 of the sites to evaluate.
  2. A private college wants you to develop a web site for their school. Search for 5 college sites, review them, then select 2 of the sites to evaluate.
  3. An independent insurance salesman wants you to develop a web site for his business. Find at least 5 independent insurance sites, review them, then select 2 of the sites to evaluate.
  4. A building contractor has asked you to design a web site for them. Find at least 5 building contractor sites, review them, then select 2 of the sites to evaluate.
  5. A church has asked you to design a web site for them. Find at least 5 church sites, review them, then select 2 of the sites to evaluate.

 Evaluation Criteria

  1. The Site - title and owner of the site and the URL?
  2. The Designer - if you can determine this information
  3. The Audience - who do you think the site is designed for (make sure you say why) and does it reach that audience?
  4. The 8-Second Rule - does it meet this requirement? Remember you are on a high speed line.
  5. Consistent Look - is there a consistent look throughout the site
  6. Accessibility - evaluate how it will look on different browsers and different display resolutions
  7. Personal Evaluation - what do you think of the site? Why?
