THE Display |
As a web designer, you not only need to know what browsers your users have
on their machines, but you also need to know what size monitors they have
and what resolutions they use to visit your site.
This type of information will impact your basic design. If you are designing an internal website and you know everyone is using monitors with a screen size of 1280 x 1024, you can do a lot of things you couldn't even consider if your users had displays of 800 x 600. As you work through this lesson, learn how determine various sizes of monitor displays. You will also want to learn how to set your monitor for different size displays so you can preview your work under different conditions. For purposes of this class, I would like you to design for 800 x 600 displays, unless you are told otherwise. Read "Display Compatibility" by Darrel Stone at his design web site. Read "Sizing Up Browsers" by Steve Mulder. This 4-page article will give you an overview of how different browsers are affected by different screen resolutions. |
